Scene 1 of 3
The sun hung low over Stonehold Citadel, casting golden light across the polished dueling platform. Kaelen's blade gleamed, catching the eye of every onlooker.
He inhaled sharply, the scent of pine still clinging to his clothes. A reminder of Ironwood. Of failure.
The crowd roared, but Kaelen heard only his own heartbeat. His father’s face was there, unreadable, waiting.
“Kaelen of Ironwood Peak!” The herald’s voice rang out, clear as a bell.
Kaelen stepped forward, his boots echoing on the stone. The weight of his father’s gaze burned into his back.
He raised his blade, the ancient steel gleaming in the light. The First Position of Ironwood.
The champion from Stonehold stepped forward, relaxed but watchful. A seasoned fighter.
Kaelen’s fingers tightened around the hilt. This was his moment.
“Ready?” The champion asked, his voice calm.
Kaelen nodded, his breath steady. “Ready.”
The crowd fell silent, holding its breath.
They circled each other, the clang of steel against stone ringing in the stillness.
Kaelen’s eyes flicked to his father’s face. Pride. Expectation.
He took a step forward, heart pounding.
“Kaelen.” Lyra’s voice cut through the noise, soft but urgent.
He turned, catching her worried expression. “I’ll be fine.”
“You’re not the only one with stakes here,” she said, her voice steady.
He nodded, then turned back to the duel. The moment was here.
The champion lunged. Kaelen braced.
The clash of steel rang out, loud and clear. Hope surged through him.
He would show them all. Ironwood still had swordsmen of worth.
And he would prove it, blade in hand.
The duel had begun.
The platform trembled under their feet, the clash of steel echoing through the Citadel.
Kaelen’s breath came fast, but his mind was clear.
He had chosen this path. No turning back now.
The champion’s blade flashed, but Kaelen moved, fast and precise.
His father’s training. His father’s legacy.
He would make it his own.
Kaelen’s blade met the champion’s, sparks flying.
Hope burned bright in his chest.
