In 1926 Montparnasse, a struggling young artist discovers her neighbor's cat can travel between paintings, revealing the secret techniques of masters like Picasso and Modigliani. She must choose between stolen glory and finding her own artistic voice.

A spacious atelier filled with artwork in progress, Japanese screens dividing the space, tall windows opening onto Montparnasse rooftops. The walls display Foujita's distinctive portraits—elongated figures with milky-white skin. In one corner, a collection of cat sculptures. Moustache sleeps on a velvet cushion near the easel.

A tiny sixth-floor walk-up under the eaves, sloping ceiling pressing down, single north-facing window casting pale light across paint-splattered floorboards. The air smells perpetually of turpentine and stale croissants. Canvases stack against walls—most copies of museum masters, all unsigned.

Through Moustache's eyes, paintings become living spaces where Marie walks inside masterpieces—Picasso's fragmented cubist rooms, Modigliani's elongated portraits that shift and breathe, Monet's water gardens where light ripples across solid surfaces. Each painting has its own physics, its own emotional weather.
Marie discovers Moustache's supernatural ability to walk between paintings, enters the painted world to steal artistic mastery from masters like Picasso and Modigliani, and ultimately rejects the temptation when she realizes borrowed genius creates nothing truly new, choosing instead to find her own authentic voice.
